(Besides the countless other instruments it includes!)Ĥ) Room treatment. $200 one-time license, free upgrades, and it includes a fantastic drum instrument called Drummer that does an amazing job, and is highly customizable. If you have (or want to get) a Mac, Logic Pro is the best bargain in all of recording. (By the way, I also didn't know how to "play piano" but figured out how to play the parts well enough to record.)ģ) For drum parts, there are many inexpensive drum pads, or you can use a midi keyboard with drum plugins for use in your recording software (DAW). I added an inexpensive midi keyboard for those parts. I recorded my vocals and some acoustic guitar with an AT-2035 mic (about $150) and a Scarlett Solo audio interface, which handled the mic input and the instrument input for guitar. I recorded a handful of cover songs when I started learning, just to see how it all worked.Ģ) Good equipment doesn't have to be expensive. Just play around and learn the software, try different techniques, search for advice, and listen to the results. Don't worry about recording a new song or a composition. But there is nothing wrong with just playing around as part of learning. The internet is full of advice, videos, and information about how to improve. You will learn by making terrible recordings. Here are my random thoughts:ġ) Just get started. So, six months! The final album is called Chasing Shadows, under the artist name Citizen61. In January of 2022, I challenged myself to write, record, and release an album by my 61st birthday, which is the end of June. I started playing around with recording, just so I could hear if my playing and singing were improving. I recorded and released an album of 8 songs, then 4 singles, and have some other songs in the works. So I was wondering do any of you have this sort of experience, that can share some ups and downs, what to look out for, what to do in the beginning, to make it all happen, etc. I have troubles with drums basically, I don't have them and I don't know anyone ho has them, or ho can make them digitally. Also vocals, that's for sure, and that's also my part. I have an idea about making music with only bass guitar and drums, maybe some beats, and a lot of playing around with bass guitar and effects. You could say that I'd like to be internet musician, but you know, if something happens why not making it live. I don't particularly mean to have live gigs or anything, I just want to make music and share with people online for starters. We started recording an album but that never god finished, and since than I'm broken about it and I long for making music from start to finish. I had a band long ago, 10 years ago almost (in high school). I'm by no means like crazy good but I think I have some good ideas for composing. I play guitar for years now, nothing special, and switched to bass guitar recently. I was wondering wat was your experience of starting a music project or "band" on your own, like only you (playing few instruments) and no one else?
